Specifics:
With the Memory Edition you get a portrait in front of a plain or abstract background.
With the Good Times Edition you get a portrait in front of a plain or abstract background or (if you prefer) a simple background-setting, suggesting a scene behind the person depicted.
With the Heartfelt Edition you get to choose to have your portrait in front of a background in the same style as all previous editions, but you can also choose to have a few specific elements depicted (e.g. trees, a mountain, clouds or a river).
With the Glorious Edition you get to choose to have your portrait in front of a background in the same style as all previous editions. You can also choose to have a specific background scene depicted (e.g. a lush forest, a luminiscent lake, a mountain-range with slopes, streams or rivers leading the viewer's eye towards the person).
The Epic Edition is the ultimate pick if you want to leave a mark with your portrait. It's a legacy to create and to have a painting (especially a portrait of a person) this size hanging on your walls. If you choose the Epic Edition, you can request any type of background-scene (as long as it's in harmony with my values and of a life-affirming nature). A few examples include: a fantasy-realm with towering mountains and a canopy of trees leading away from the mountains and towards the foreground; or: a giant neon-blue sphere surrounded by crystal-structures, creating a vibrantly bright light illuminating the figure in the front etc.
What is included in the portrait-package (no matter what edition you choose)?
- Your commissioned original oil painting
- a personalized certificate of authenticity
- a behind-the-art letter detailing the creation process
- a copy of the preliminary concept study drawn for the final original painting
- a personal thank-you note
Additionally, you will receive all content as digital pdf-versions as well as a digital copy of your commissioned artwork!
What materials are used for the artwork?
I primarily paint with watermixable oil-paint, which really is no different than normal oil paint - it's as high quality, long-lasting and archival as the non-watermixable version. Sometimes, though rarely, I will work with an acrylic layer before painting the layers on top in oil.
What sizes?
Different sizes come with different materials.
You can choose between the following options:
- Canvaspaper on Woodpanel or Gesso-primed Woodpanel
- Stretched Cotton-Canvas 280gsm
- Stretched Cotton-Canvas 380gsm
How does the process work?
- You send me an email sharing the specifics of what you imagine the final result to contain and what color(s) you absolutely want to see in the final painting. Additionally, email me at least one reference photo of the person you want a portrait of - in high quality (good camera, good lighting) + a list of characteristics, maybe even a little backstory or an emotional piece talking about your love for this person and some memories you cherish with them.
- I will contact you with the specifics about the process
- Afterwards I'll create a sketch / a compositional study
- After discussing the initial stage, you let me know if you're ready to proceed with the project
- The painting process begins
- You will receive a photo of the final result.
- The finished painting will be shipped to you.
How long will it take until I can hold my commissioned portrait-artwork in my hands?
This highly depends on the individual artwork, but generally you can expect a creation time of 4-8 weeks (unless you choose the "epic edition" which will take a minimum of 2-3 months).
Additionally, for the drying time of the piece, you can expect about 4 weeks (varies depending on the thickness of the paint application). Shipping is highly dependent on your residence country. But all in all it will take between one and 3 months (with the epic edition maybe 4 or longer) - from the inception of your idea to the finished artwork - to arrive in your hands.
What do I own exactly?
You will be the owner of the original painting, and you have the right to display the work in your private residence (apartment, house etc.).
As the artist, I retain all copyright to and reproduction rights of the artwork, which implies that I have permission to use the artwork for art prints and other products on my website. (as a frame of reference you can think of the portraits throughout history that are still in circulation today - this timeless notion of presentation is part of the process.)
Due to the nature of portraits being very personal, often emotively charged pieces of art, I will treat the creation and curation process, as with all of my paintings, with the utmost respect and diligence.
The purchase or commissioning of an original painting does not grant you permission to create reproductions. This is inclusive of but not limited to: book covers, posters, printing, etc. Partial nor full rights to artwork will ever be made available to purchase.
