The gentle color palette coupled with the soft, thin application of paint makes this portrait a highlight for me. The soothing purple, subtle notes of rose with patches of pale green shimmering through the background, combined with the smooth skin tones and the reserved, yet content expression of the face makes you want to sigh out the stress of the day, wind down and simply appreciate the beauty of the moment. 

To me, this painting represents connecting with the here and now and, for instance, seeing the peace in a flower, recognizing the beauty in being where we are and finding the rejuvenating energy in the little day-to-day things that surround us. This recognition mixed with the soft, gentle rendering of the portrait, is why it became one of my favorite paintings I recently made.
