The Goddess of Fate - Redefined
Tyche’s aura radiates a mystically metaphysical power and her hair seems to sway in a constant, fluid motion, just like the waves she emerges from.
In this particular depiction, she can be viewed as an ethereal goddess connected to Oceanus – the personification of the ocean – and Cronus, the god of time, as one flows into the other seamlessly. For me, Tyche also has connections to the mythological lost land of Atlantis, which is why she has these turquoise-colored, glowing lines gracing her body.
Due to the unique mixed-media approach for this artwork, there are three distinct phases involved in the creation-process: In the first phase, I used graphite pencils to make the underdrawing – this is the most important part of the process as it dictates the overall composition, design and feel of the final piece.
In the second phase I used ink pens to outline the previous graphite marks, before grabbing the brushes to paint the figure of Tyche with all her hair and jewelry in a traditional manner. The paper for the painting was 300g/m2 and I used a mixture of watercolors and gouache for the colors as well as the above-mentioned mediums.
The third phase starts with scanning in the painting of the figure and continues with digitally designing the background to create a striking, modern contrast with the foreground, as can be seen in the final Artprint.
The Goddess of Fate wants to share her wisdom with you!
Don't you love the sheer infinite, colorfully unique plethora of Greek gods and goddesses that are out there?
Tyche might be more known by her Roman name (Fortuna), which sounds epic - but I wanted to stay true to the Greek original name to make all the Artworks in the Chronicles of a Myth series as cohesive as possible.
